Grindr Tests EDGE, a High-Priced AI Tier in the U.S.

Grindr is testing EDGE, a luxury AI subscription. Public reports and in-app test screenshots have shown prices from about $80 a week up to around $350–$500 a month, depending on the user and city. The Financial Times reported that CEO George Arison is aiming the paid stack at affluent users who want to save time, while keeping the free grid as the core product.

What EDGE is

Grindr has described EDGE as a step above Unlimited (“if Unlimited is business class, EDGE is first class”). Testing started in Australia and New Zealand in 2025, then moved to the U.S. and Canada. Pricing is not one public SKU. It varies by user and city while the company learns what people will pay.

Reported AI pieces inside the tier:

  • Discover: more personalized match suggestions
  • Insights: a signal before you message
  • A-List: a feed that brings back old chats
  • Help on profile improvements and “who you’re likely to match with”

Grindr already does not run a classic Tinder-style swipe. It is a proximity grid. EDGE is an AI layer on top of that, aimed in part at older, higher-spend users and at a more “quality connection” story than the app’s hookup reputation.

What this is not

It is not a new LGBTQ+ network. It is not proof that $500/month AI gets you a relationship. CPO AJ Balance has said some testers pay around $350 a month because they save time. That is a willingness-to-pay test, not a published success rate.

Arison also told the FT Grindr is planning a separate luxury lifestyle / social-club style product that “is going to be expensive.” Separate from EDGE. Details still thin.

Should you pay for it?

Only if you already use Grindr a lot, have the budget, and want faster sorting in a dense city. For most people the free or cheaper tiers remain the product. If your goal is curated intros rather than a paid AI overlay on a grid, look at other models in the directory or take the Finder.

AI on Grindr is real. The price is the story. Treat EDGE as an experiment in monetizing attention, not as a matchmaker.
